Supervisor Donald P. Wagner Reopens Irvine Lake for Shoreline Fishing
SANTA ANA, Calif. (July 31, 2019) – Orange County residents can gear up for shoreline fishing at Irvine Lake, which will reopen on Saturday, August 17th, 2019. Opening day festivities start at 7 a.m. with free breakfast, coffee and surprise giveaways by Supervisor Donald P. Wagner.
“The lake was unused for years. I saw a solvable problem and an opportunity to bring an incredible resource back to the public. Enhancing the quality of life in Orange County means striking a healthy balance between our thriving urban areas and our majestic open spaces,” said Supervisor Wagner, “As a Third District resident myself, I’m beyond thrilled to have led the negotiations that will reopen Irvine Lake, giving our community a natural place to create memories for generations to come.”
Orange County locals and excited families reminisced about the once vibrant facility, vocalizing a desire to create new memories (and catch big fish) with their children and grandchildren.
“Public access is the hallmark of The Irvine Ranch’s 57,500 acres of preserved open space, including Irvine Lake. We look forward to families casting from its shores once again.” said Dan Miller, Irvine Company.
Supervisor Wagner, Serrano Water District, The Irvine Company, and the Irvine Ranch Water District are looking forward to seeing these smiling residents bright and early with fishing poles in tow.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, Serrano Water District is looking forward to seeing fishing back up at Irvine Lake. It is a great opportunity for families to rediscover this wonderful recreational venue.” said Larry Pharris, Jr., Board President, Serrano Water District.
No fishing license is required. Bait and light snacks will be available for purchase at the Lake.
“The Longfin Fishing Tackle Store is honored to work with Supervisor Don Wagner on the reopening of Irvine Lake. Irvine Lake provides great fun for families and children. We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, August 17th.” said Erick Miller, Longfin Store Manager.
